Proposed Astro-Science Center Plans

In 2016 the Adirondack Public Observatory received a $70,000 grant from New York State DEC and the town of Tupper Lake. This made it possible for us to hire Envision Architects, out of Albany, NY to help design the next two buildings: a domed building which will house a research telescope and a 12,000 square foot Astro-Science Center museum. This last building will include a classroom, exhibit hall, archival museum, lecture hall, and planetarium. They have provided us with these sketches and a video fly-by of their proposed design. This is still a work in progress, so stay tuned for updates!

Adirondack Public Observatory Concept Design

"Continuing its work to enhance public engagement and advance the Astro-sciences, the Adirondack Public Observatory retained ENVISION to develop a design for its Astro-Science Center in Tupper Lake NY. Already a great location for star gazing, the Center will expand to provide exhibit space, classrooms, a planetarium and gift-shop, as well as a new research-grade telescope and dome.

The Center will integrate its program with the Wild Center and area schools, colleges and universities. The facility will contribute to scientific discovery, and invite the public and students to explore the history, present and future of Astro-Sciences thru hands-on activity, exhibits, special programs, lectures and seminars..." - Envision Architechs (Learn More)
